Downtown of Merano

Medieval is the character of the city center of Merano  with its closely packed houses. Especially in the “Laubengasse”, where the buildings are connected by arcades, this is evident and in the Steinach district, the oldest part of the city, which was always reserved for the artists.
The medieval city gates can still be found today in the four corners of the city center. In the center, leaning against the Küchelberg, stands the mighty cathedral, the princely castle and the Palais Mamming, which contains the architecturally exciting renovation of the city museum. The Museum of Modern Art, the Kunsthaus, is also located in the center, directly in the arcades. Outside the medieval core you will find the buildings which emerged in the last decades of the 19th century, when Merano became an international spa resort.
