Meran
The medieval city gates can still be found today in the four corners of the city center. In the center, leaning against the Küchelberg, stands the mighty cathedral, the princely castle and the Palais Mamming, which contains the architecturally exciting renovation of the city museum. The Museum of Modern Art, the Kunsthaus, is also located in the center, directly in the arcades. Outside the medieval core are the buildings that emerged in the last decades of the 19th century, when Merano became an international spa resort, the unique, extensive parkland and the residential area of Obermais, in which many of the nobles built their castles and villas in the entourage of Empress Sissi.
